One common cause can be that you have an imbalance of Candida albicans, a fungus that can live the GI tract, the mouth, and the vagina. Most of the time it causes no problems and we are not even aware of its presence, but just occasionally it just gets too prolific and problems start to occur.

Often an outbreak on your face will also be accompanied by outbreaks elsewhere on the body, but occasionally localized attacks can happen.

What causes Facial Fungus Problems?

There are a great many reasons for this to occur. These may include:

  • Hygiene problems
  • Too much sweating
  • Licking around the area of the mouth
  • Facial cleansing products that are just too strong
  • Scrubbing your face too roughly, and other irritation of the skin

Symptoms

Commonly the problem presents with a red skin rash, which may or may not feature bumps and/or spots. This may also be accompanied by itching, ulcers, patches of skin that are very dry, a burning sensation, and pimples.

Treatment

The most common treatment is by using an antifungal face cream or spray. Many of these can be purchased over the counter or without prescription. However, if these fail to resolve the problem, you may choose to consult your doctor to inquire about prescription antifungal face creams.

Antifungal Face Creams

antifungal face creamTo use these effectively you should cover the infected area and a little surrounding skin with the medication, and then wash your hands. You should not cover the area unless specifically instructed by qualified medical staff.

Normally the medication is used once a day but you should continue with the treatment even if it appears to clear up. Finish the prescribed amount. If you stop the treatment too early, you may allow the fungus to grow back.

If the treatment does not appear to work, by the end of the course, you should ask your doctor for advice on alternative treatments.
